Vital Signs #72: SXSW Presentation - Crowdfunding Panel
The market for first-time financing in biotech and life sciences has been challenging, with NVCA/ PwC Moneytree reporting “bottom quartile” venture investment for five of the last eight quarters. Making matters worse, sequestration has decreased the amount of grants, leaving many emerging companies searching for angel investors to fill the gap. With the SEC’s lift on the ban of general solicitation to accredited investors, and the emergence of regulation D compliant crowdfunding platforms—crowdfinance will be a part of many emerging companies funding strategies. Veteran healthcare investment banker David Loucks, CEO of Healthios Exchange, has executed over half a trillion in healthcare transactions. He will walk attendees through the changing landscape of healthcare finance, discussing how crowdfunding will impact the industry and outlining the critical steps that life science and biotech companies need to take to ensure they do not become so-called "orphans." - See more at: http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote/23015#sthash.8DMRAVgS.dpuf
