Workshop: Building Health Tech Businesses that Feature Two-Sided Markets
Monday, March 3, 9:00am - 10:30am

Does your health tech company’s success hinge on servicing two different groups of users where one group realizes value only when the other group is already participating? Here’s an example: you’ve built a product that offers the pharmaceutical industry access to clinicians, but pharma won’t become a customer unless you already have clinicians actively using your product. In healthcare, examples of parties might be clinicians, administrators, patients, payers and governments - just to name a few.

Learn strategies to build two-sided markets with Subbu Arumugum and Jasmin Phua.
Understand how to apply these strategies in various cases and leave with the ability to capably execute them for your own business.

Some of the companies and/or products we will feature as cases during the workshop include: ZocDoc, Doximity, Google Health, DrChrono, and HealthTap.

Workshop: Innovations That Can Stop the Spread of Infectious Disease
Monday, March 16, 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Recent disease outbreaks—Ebola, influenza, and antibiotic-resistant superbugs—showcase how disease modeling has become a tremendous tool for eliminating infectious disease and improving global health. Healthcare professionals are using mathematical models to understand the transmission of infections, quickly pinpointing the time between exposure, illness and transmission.

Understanding how and where diseases are spreading is critical so practicing physicians and public health systems can make more effective decisions regarding testing and treatment. It is literally a matter of life and death. Disease modeling makes it possible.

Join NorthShore University HealthSystem panelists Karen Kaul, MD, PhD, Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Ari Robicsek, MD, Vice President of Clinical Analytics and Associate Chief Medical Information Office, as they discuss their innovations in disease modeling and diagnosis.

Chicago Pilot Series: So You Want to Pilot Your Product at My Hospital?
Thursday, March 26, 2:30pm - 5:00pm

One of the major challenges faced by new health technology companies, is finding a place to try out their new product or idea. Almost every startup looking to innovate healthcare has trouble getting their first pilot at a hospital, medical practice or other appropriate setting.
Join MATTER, Health 2.0 Chicago and the American Heart Association for a panel discussion where hospital executives and entrepreneurs share their perspectives on how they could learn more about each other’s needs and corporate cultures to make the process of getting a pilot more efficient.

Paul Magelli, CEO of Apervita, will moderate a discussion between these entrepreneurs and hospital executives on the "code of conduct" for these initial interactions.
